Thank you for supporting READ International. Your help, participation and encouragement has helped us distribute 564,000 textbooks in Tanzania and change the stories of almost 300,000 people in East Africa and the UK.

Since opening our office in Dar es Salaam in July 2009, we have developed our communications and support with schools and have learnt more about how we can improve our work in East Africa.  Immediately apparent is the significant impact READ makes on the experience of schooling and upon confidence and aspirations of young people. When we provide a book it is not the end of the line, but the beginning of something else.   

READ: A good story…

2010 will be the sixth time that volunteers have distributed books in Tanzania and the first time to Uganda.  By September, we will have delivered 900,000 disused but good-quality and relevant textbooks to East Africa, reaching one quarter of Tanzanian secondary schools. UK volunteers will have worked with Tanzanian students and teachers to renovate over 20 school libraries.
